Singapore Government School Admissions: AEIS / S-AEIS
AREDA Education helps families decide whether the government-school pathway fits their child, check the relevant admissions requirements and organise application steps. Build the plan around eligibility, learning readiness and a workable alternative.

What AREDA helps your family organise
Pathway and eligibility review
Review your child’s age, school background, English and Mathematics readiness, intended admission year and family arrangements. Identify the official eligibility checks needed before choosing an exercise.
Application and decision checklist
Organise requirements, documents, registration milestones and questions to clarify with the authorities. Separate test registration, travel arrangements and later school-admission steps.
Results and backup decisions
Plan how to respond to an offer or an unsuccessful outcome. Compare another eligible exercise, international-school applications or a later move without treating any option as a guaranteed place.
The consulting scope and fee are agreed before work starts. Test fees, school charges, pass applications and any Future Academy academic preparation are separate unless explicitly included.

AEIS and S-AEIS: check the intake and eligible levels
These are admissions exercises for international students seeking places in Singapore’s mainstream schools. The eligible levels differ. Select the route from the intended admission year and official eligibility criteria, rather than treating S-AEIS as an automatic second sitting.
AEIS
Admission for the following academic year
The Admissions Exercise for International Students covers Primary 2–5 and Secondary 1–3 for the following academic year.
S-AEIS
Admission in the same academic year
The Supplementary Admissions Exercise for International Students covers Primary 2–4 and Secondary 1–2 in the same academic year.

Four checks before committing to this route
Official eligibility and academic readiness are different questions. Assess both, alongside the family’s practical arrangements.
01
Age, identity and entry level
Use the current official criteria for the child’s date of birth, nationality or residency position and intended admission year. A current school grade alone does not determine eligibility.
02
English and Mathematics readiness
Check the primary CEQ test, required score and accepted test date against the relevant exercise. SEAB advises preparation for the preceding school level’s syllabus; secondary applicants need both English and Mathematics.
03
Placement and family expectations
Admission depends on performance and available vacancies. Successful AEIS applicants cannot choose their school. Plan for a placement decision made by MOE rather than promising a particular school.
04
Budget, travel and school transition
Allow for testing, preparation if needed, travel, school costs and family living arrangements. Review the learning transition and practical move before giving up an existing school place.
Separate the school offer from the pass application. ICA’s government-school Student’s Pass guidance explains relevant pass exemptions and requires an eligible local sponsor for applicants using this route: a Singapore citizen or permanent resident aged 21 or older. Confirm what applies to your family. For placement limits, see Chung Cheng High School (Yishun)’s official admissions guidance.
Prepare an alternative before results arrive
Compare options your family can actually carry out. Account for age eligibility, curriculum continuity, application fees, deposits and the child’s current school commitments.
Another eligible exercise
Recheck age and entry level
Consider a subsequent AEIS or S-AEIS only after checking the applicable eligibility rules and preparation needs. A later exercise may not cover the same entry level.
Singapore international schools
Check school-specific entry rules
An international school uses its own application and assessment process. Compare residency eligibility, English support, year-group placement and the complete cost.
A later move or another destination
Protect learning continuity
Staying in the current school while preparing further may be suitable. If considering Malaysia, compare the actual school, curriculum, family arrangements and admission conditions.
Keep any existing school’s withdrawal and refund deadlines in the decision checklist. A backup application is not a confirmed place.
From eligibility review to the next school decision
Agree the consulting scope, verify the current exercise and keep the family informed about decisions that depend on MOE, SEAB or ICA.
Check the child’s starting point
Gather age, current grade, school reports, English and Mathematics background, intended start date, residency information and budget.
Build an exercise-specific plan
Verify eligibility and, for primary applicants, the relevant CEQ requirements. Identify learning gaps and agree any separate academic preparation.
Organise registration and test arrangements
Follow SEAB’s current document and Candidates Portal instructions. Track application status, retrieve the entry proof and confirm independent travel arrangements.
Read the outcome and act
Follow the official outcome and reporting instructions. If offered a place, check school registration and any pass requirements; otherwise compare the eligible alternatives already planned.
Application documents and official systems
Use the current exercise’s checklist. The usual starting documents include:
- Child’s birth certificate and accurate English translation where required
- Child’s passport biodata page; check the published validity requirement
- Primary applicants’ relevant CEQ statement of results
- Any additional supporting documents requested for the application
Optional academic preparation through Future Academy
Where the child needs English or Mathematics preparation, Future Academy can be considered under a separate agreed scope. AREDA Education provides pathway planning and application consulting. Preparation cannot guarantee admission or a particular placement.
Official guidance checked on 6 October 2026
Use the Candidates Portal for registration status and entry proofs. School-admission outcomes use MOE’s AEIS-IS or S-AEIS-IS, as SEAB explains. The entry proof admits the applicant to the test venue; it is not permission to enter Singapore.
